EP MONDAY?

Despite having pushed out a copious amount of tunes yesterday (whilst wearing a hangover), we're once again full up with audible goodness. This time we've got two EP's to showcase, stemming from the very popular Champion Beats Records and the up and coming Nu Style brand. Here's two easy to eat, bite size sections on both the EP's!

Danny Sounds ft Mr Eyez - Blaze The Ounce EP
Champion Beats Records
Combine the phat synths and crazy basslines of Danny Soundz with the awesome, sharp, gritty vocals from Mr Eyez and its clearly going to be something worth a listen. Champion Beats, as we have said time and time again, have a pretty good ear for whats going to work - a statement further proven by their latest release. The duo have had a number of releases on Anthony 'Melting Man' Hudson's label before, but we'd have to say this is our favourite so far. Including remixes by Skinny, DJ Denise, Frederik Mooij and the Incredible Melting Man himself, the EP serves up a tasty little cross section of sound that will get all those bassline junkies bopping their heads and tapping their feet. The EP drops tomorrow and we've got a few clips to get you going until then, so test them out!

Roby Howler - Basemant EP
Nu Style Records
The rise of promotional videos to help differentiate one DJ from another has become a pretty popular concept around the world, as Russian DJ and producer Roby Howler has just proved to us. Not only has he just dropped his latest two track EP on Nu Style, but he's also collaborated with popular video DJ 'Stereonoize' to create a audio-visual master piece. You can watch the video RIGHT here and we strongly suggest you do, with the wacky use of visual stimulus sending sober minds crazy and crazy minds insane. Jumping back to his Basemant EP, we have to say its pretty suitable titled. After listening to the headline track, the EP gives off immense feelings of 'underground', 'downstairs' and 'below the surface' and to be honest - we can't even explain why. It's got a dark aura that we really dig and the remixes from the likes of Skinny and Royal K really finish the product off.

DAFT PUNK BOOTLEG

Champion Beats sure can throw around a tune or two and we've become really fond of their taste in music of late. Their EP's bang hard and the artists under their clasp seem to have a pretty good idea how to write a hit tune, or in this case, bootleg. We just received a Daft Punk bootleg from none other than Kerrie Nation and after a solid listen, we just love it. It's nothing over the top and keeps a good portion of the classic Daft Punk tune, but adds a perfect little element to it and smashes those kick drums up a notch. If your a fan, thank Kerrie Nation right here and be sure to keep an eye on Champion Beats in the coming months!

Good Vibrations EP

The word from Champion Beats Records is that Frederik Mooij sent over a killer track awhile back. The pinpoint ears from the crew loved what they had received, but knew it could do with some solid vocal work over the top. "Let us introduce you to our friend Mic Fresh" they said. Mr Mooij and the Champion Beats Crew knew the result was going to be something special but even they can acknowledge that none of them had any idea just how big the Good Vibration EP would end up. Record label owner Anthony 'Melting Man' Hudson stated "Good Vibration is one of the greatest EP's Champion Beats has had the pleasure of releasing" and we damn well agree. This shit is huge!! Add Jayforce, Matt Cox, Damn Bell Doors, Melting Man and Jon-E Industry to remix duties and its a fail safe plan. Check out the 128 samples below for a few taste testers and once your hooked, buy the EP at Beatport immediately!

Snoop/Dre/Melting Man!

Champion Beats head-honcho and ripper producer The Incredible Melting Man has just thrown together his second bootleg of all time. The UK DJ/Producer felt it necessary after the success of his previous 'Hypnotize' booty and we are glad he did, with his latest effort providing a jacked up take on a great original track your sure to know. Setting his sights on Snoop & Dre's 'Next Episode', the sound emitted from the mp3 located below is what we've come to expect from the talented and friendly ripper, with a nice wobble accompany more than your daily serve of bass. Enjoy that shit and watch for the latest Champion Beats Record feature coming ASAP!

BOOOOOOM!

Exclusive Mic Fresh Interview

Mic Fresh is not exactly new to the scene, but don't worry if you don't know his name. He's been around the block and he's worked with a few 'who's who' names in the past but it seems like he's due to blow up about now. While we're not going to sit here and turn this introduction into a history lesson, (the interview has all the Mic Fresh goodness you need) we will say the Mic Fresh name is plastered all over the Incredible Melting Man's new 'Jakin Da Filth' EP for his dirty and very, very catchy vocal work. The EP drops on Champion Beats Records on August 21st and we've got an exclusive interview with the man himself alongside previews of all the tracks from the EP, including remixes by Matt Cox, Royal K and Scissorkicks (find artist links at the bottom of this post), not forgetting the original by Incredible Melting Man feat Mic Fresh, which is a filthy and HUGE tune. Enjoy the interview, grab the tracks then jump on Beatport for the EP as soon as its out.

As another little treat, we've including Mic Fresh's latest mixtape, proving his DJ counterparts don't have him covered in that area. Its titled 'The Fresh Test' and its got a bunch of fun tunes to bang out after you've checked out the interview and the feature clips. Oh and in case your having some trouble, we (Fridge Jet) are in bold italics, Mic Fresh is in simple font. Enjoy the interview!

Ok lets cut to the chase. First of all, how about we get everyone into the world of Mic Fresh. How did it all get started and where did you come from? Chat about yourself for a bit!

Ahh how it all got started, haha. Well that's a serious history lesson right there. Lets just say I’ve been in the game for more then a minute and me and Anthony (The Incredible Melting Man), well you could say we've worked on some projects together in the past. Anyway, recently he asked me to swing by his place cause he was working on a new track that he wanted me to hear. I pop by his place and take a listen to what he’s working on and I really like the track. I run home, grab my mic, jam straight back to his place and spit some bars to compliment the filthy bass he’d been cooking up. After that he just works his usual magic and voila - Jakin Da Filth was born!

Sounds like it shot up pretty quickly man. So you’ve got some upcoming releases to really kick things off, tell us a little about what’s going on regarding that side of things?

Well as you already know, ‘Jakin the Filth’ is the jump off track. It’s a huge EP and Champion Beats have really put some effort in with a serious round of remixes to go with it. The 4 track EP features remixes by Matt Cox, Royal K and the almighty Scissorkicks who came out of retirement to drop us an exclusive remix! So yeah, this EP is real nice – it’s a great one to kick things off! As for the near future I have work with Jason Score from Champion Beats coming out as well as a track with Frederik Mooij from Loudroom Recordings. I’ve also got a bunch of unofficial stuff that’s around and in the works, I’ll keep you guys posted in regards to it all.

That’s a nice set of artists to say your going to be working with, looks like there’s some big things coming. Have you drawn inspiration from any particular vocalists lately, in fact, anyone in the scene that you really look up to?

Well I'm old school kat so most of my inspiration comes from early soul, funk, hip-hop and house. As for the scene I like the fact that more artists and producers are stepping outside of the regular genres and taking chances on new styles and sounds.

Agreed! How do you feel about some of the increasingly popular genres today, are you a fan of the tribal elements coming in? Think Major Lazer. Well actually, more importantly, Dubstep – love or hate?

I have only heard a handful of new songs with tribal elements going on, so I really don''t have an opinion on it besides that it seems like a summertime thing to me. As for Dubstep I would say I have a like and dislike relationship with it. When I first started hearing the down tempo cousin of D&B I was liking the new exploration of sound and music, it was something really cool. Now that it’s gotten popular it seems to be more of a sound that has lost its musical side. If I was to explore dubstep deeper I would definitely push the musical side more.

Yeh, lets hope it doesn’t pick up that repetitive nature that some of the other passing genres have. Can we see the Mic Fresh name popping up on an array of genres in the future?

Definitely. I listen to a wide variety of music, so I am open to working in different genres. Locking myself to one particular genre would get boring fast, so I’m looking forward to getting into a bunch of sounds.

Hope all the artists out there hear that. We’d love to see you laying down vocals on a variety of different sounds. So any dream collaborations your looking at getting going in the future?

Honestly I'm working with some great people now, however if the opportunity arose I'd like to do some stuff with the likes of Foamo, Laidback Luke or Diplo. My reasoning behind that line up would be the fact that none of them are afraid to push the envelope and I think that’s very important. I’m all about that.

Ahh that would be something to look forward to! Can we catch you doing any live performances any time soon?

Soon yes. Just looking at getting some more tracks together first, then we will defiantly kick off some live shows.

We’ll definitely keep a look out, be sure to fill us in. When it comes to live shows and all that, are you the performer type? Or would you consider yourself in your own element when chilling in a studio writing tunes?

I am performer. I love doing live shows and being one with the crowd. Walking off stage knowing you gave it your all and the crowd loved it is the best feeling for me.

It’s what makes a show. Ok so lets run with a few quick questions to finish up. Start with a bang, we’d put the difficulty level on this bad boy at around 9.5, but give it a shot. Favorite artist or producer at the moment?

Wow! That is a tough one because I like a lot of different artists and musicians. For now I would have to go with the producers I already mentioned (Laidback Luke, Diplo, Foamo) plus the Incredible Melting Man, the man behind ‘Jaking the Filth’.

Most likely place you’ll be if we can’t find you on a Saturday night?

Home. Chilling.

YUM!

South African Booties

"Can you still say you run vinyl because of that authentic, true sound... if your using Serato"

We're all familiar with the work ethic, consistency and down right jackin' vibe that's been pouring out of the South African dance music scene over the past couple of years, and who better to rave about than our two regular SA punters - Dylan H and Royal K! The two trouble-makers have been hard at work releasing tunes all over Beatport, hell... between the pair they have remixed 90% of the fidget and wonky community (we definitely made that up). Both the offerings today have their distinctive sounds, with Royal K choosing to bootleg the smooth, melodic sounds of Calvin Harris (I'm Not Alone) and Dylan H opting for something that we hope will strike a chord for the many 'established' club goers out there. In the end, these ain't no Minstery of Sound's chill out tunes - buckle in!

Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah (Dylan's Yeah Baby Yeah Bootleg)

Calvin Harris - I'm Not Alone (Royal K's Alone In The Dark Bootleg)

BONUS:
Just to prove that these two are not at odd ends and unlike any other producers from South Africa (we won't even get started on names like Kyle Watson), we have a little offering from a slightly less-established funky charger from over the way. His names Dean Kempson and he goes by the DJ alias 'DJ Cheeky D' (a popular one down under, also used by our very close friend and co-owner of Ho-Ju Records, Duane). He's new in the game and comes from the same crew as the guys we've been raving about above, so the style is not going to shock your socks off with creativity and differentiation, but GREAT starting effort.

Wobble Much Bass?

Of course you all remember Royal K (albeit the fact some of his tracks were only up here for a short time), so its no doubt that since you received the taste testers you have been hunting around for more of his above par production efforts? Well stop searching momentarily, because we've got his new one! While his first release sits at number 55 on the Stompy Electro Download Chart, our man had some spare time on his hands and the resultant effects are the bad boys you see in yellow below. Thats right, two sets and an exclusive original! The good thing is there is no slowing him down, with further remixes due in the next couple of months via Flexual Records, Deep Fried Gold, Champion Beats, GlowstamGround Level UK. He's walking towards his prime and only going to get better! Jump the links and check him out on Myspace and Facebook (for track lists scroll down).
