ONE MAN PARTY @ BLACK CANDY

One Man Party, better known as the drummer from Soulwax, is what many would call a modern day hero. Not only does he travel the world with his friends making people happy, but he also does it on his own, spinning increasingly eclectic sets around the globe. Inspired by prominent 80's and 90's genres like new beat, rave, acid house and techno, One Man Party sure knows how to please the masses. Influenced by guys like 2 Many DJ's and Erol Alkan, its pretty obvious to anyone with reasonable knowledge his sets are going to pack a punch. What makes us particularly happy about One Man Party/The Crazy Soulwax Drummer/Steve Slingeneyer's amazing talents and success, is that he's decided to do what most big names do and pop into Black Candy! Ohh dear... don't plan anything the following day kids.

Two of our favourite club brands: BLACK CANDY and LICK IT have thrown some of the biggest parties this little town has ever seen. From massive international acts, to crazy themes, the gang-banging duo have very much done it all and then some.

Both aficionado's are changing venues and have decided to join forces and throw one last send-us-off-our-shit party. Hence! the SUPERHEROES party at Brisbane's Empire Hotel features DJ SEGA (MAD DECENT) and GIGI BAROCCO (DIM MAK/ITALY). With supports from favorites Tim Fuchs,  Wolfie, J. Underpants, Killafornia, Jad and Lady Boy, The Fitzgerald Inquiry, Benibee, Royale, K Frizz and Phantom Collective hoodlums Keen? and Koochie,  the night is more than definitely set to be nuclear.

Come show your support for what is their last (but most certainly not least)  party at Empire before the the hard hitting electro sound of BLACK CANDY moves to the  Monastery  Nightclub and the versatile LICK IT continues to have their finger on the pulse on Brisbane's cool and fresh.

The history of both event crews leaves them with a remarkable hosting of world's most pursued live acts with Lick It media shipping over Metronomy, Klaxons and Boys Noize and the star-studded Black Candy  providing Brisbane with the lives of Fukkk Offf, Le Castle Vania and  the fostered  careers of some of brisbane’s biggest live acts. Come support the names that have been providing you with those heartfelt moments on the dirty floors of Empire Hotel at 4am in the morning and send them off with one more bang!

Stay Classy Brisbane,
Black Candy & Lick It.

A Black Candy Diary: Chapter 2

Our resident DJs KEEN? have a new mix, click the artwork to download.

Since the mass popularization of modern dance music over the past 4 to 5 years, we have been part of a unique and evolving industry that now dominates radio stations, car stereos and is epitomized by mass festivals selling out in minutes. It has become a culture, an attitude spawn from the new idea’s that were lurking around every corner four or so years ago, from bizarre yet familiar sounds and icons like Ed Banger, Dim Mak and Daft Punk touring the globe and opening the kids eyes to the fact that electronic music is not about quick rave or trance but about the party itself. Virgin ears around the world popped their cherries to the likes of Boys Noize' first album 'OI OI OI', a plethora of beautifully destroyed and dirty sounds linked with a precise beat that created a master piece out of a junkyard. Indeed this grew and grew out of it’s status with each new kid that joined the wave of electronica.

As of late, it is this flourishing prosperity that seems to have outgrown itself. I hear kids say “it’s all been done” but that is not what is meant. It seems that in the modern day, the compass has been winding around and around, constantly looking for that new sub genre to be spawn. Will the formula be changed by a few pioneering personalities in the same fashion of it's origin? Will the collaboration of big heavyweights such as MAJOR LAZER and DUCK SAUCE be the answer? Will new events be stripped back to the simple ideology of being cool and fun be re-introduced? Not the massive over-use of “cool acts” to pull crowds. Or will something new all together come through as everything can never be done, and our little minds cannot even comprehend the amount of different noises that can be heard! From computers, machines, instruments, nature, instruments that haven’t even been invented yet! Where is it heading and who will stand out amongst masses to give us something new?

A Black Candy Diary: Chapter #1

You won’t find BLACK CANDY out the front of universities at tables talking about art or magazines with professors. No. Black Candy is about the people in the back, back-room... the people in the DJ Booth and the people in the sweaty inferno they call “downstairs”. The people waiting in line for the dingy white tiled bathrooms, the people in the hallway toward the exit where you always see someone you haven’t seen in years, you know, since they tried the “relationship thing” and of course now they’re single and you’re both drunk and you talk about how fucked up you both are and say stuff like “i’ll see you back inside” just to spend the rest of the night trying to avoid them, meanwhile scanning to find that one beauty you connected with, who mentioned they were leaving with their friends soon. Will you find them before the clock strikes 3am and your options run out.....?

Black Candy is a lifestyle in the clubs where people go for the music, where the person they might meet will not be the cool kids they already know, where the lights are dark and you can’t make out small body signs that you really can’t afford to miss with “that” girl, and all while dancing to tracks you have never heard before by the likes of residents KEEN? and Donnie & Brasco. Don't expect the tunes that have been killed by radio stations either. When you leave you leave with a smile, as you go home and get on a blog to find “that” track you heard and stalk on Facebook for “that” girl you came across, not sure whether calling or sending them a PM is too forward....?
