The Sound of Summer

Avid music fans, specifically in and around Brisbane, have a reason to rejoice. Not only is the most well known and widely recognised music festival back in Brisbane - but Parklife is damn-well less than 3 weeks away!! With the likes of Busy P, Jack Beats, Missy Elliot, Groove Armada and Midnight Juggernaughts set to rock the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, it seem's Brisbane punters just can't smile enough. Alongside maintaining a tradition everyone in South East Queensland knows and loves, the return of Parklife to the famed Brisbane Botanical Gardens is set to work wonders for the local music scene. Rejoice!

SELF SHOUTS

Yes, these are my own tunes. No I'm not going to rave about them. One is a remix of the highly anticipated 'Out of Body' track by Jack Beats, due out on June 21st via Herves 'Cheap Thrills' label. It's a vocal orientated Bmore-esque take of the original and samples the breakdown quite heavily in the tune. The other is simply a party edit I made awhile back. It combines the popular Noob and Brodinski A side track 'Peanuts Club' with the soothing style of MIA and her 'Bucky Done Gun' feature track. Leave a comment on the Soundcloud of either tracks if you want a download link!

M.I.A

Yes guys, we know.
We have been M.I.A for quite awhile!
We're currently conjuring up bigger/better things.
Things that will help you, the readers...
So bear with us please!
The tunes will be back flowing very soon!!
Along with some new treats and tricks...
even an event!!
Here's a few for now though. Enjoy them :)

JACK BEATS ESSENTIAL MIX

It took two separate and amazing entities to create what the world now knows as Jack Beats. Firstly, there was Beni G from the highly popular Mixologists. These self proclaimed 'leaders of the true school' and all round hip-hop connoisseurs made a name for themselves before you even looked at turntables and still rip shit to this day. Then came Plus One, spawned from the widely recognised Scratch Perverts, a man who describes his sound as that of 'a cat been hoovered up by a group of angry trolls' and is known by every worthwhile face on the DMC circuit.

While amazing in their own individual worlds, the bang the duo made when they merged was impossible to anticipate, even for themselves. Since their newest alter-egos initiation to the dance music world, they've racked up an amazing number of collaborations, toured worldwide, featured on Radio 1 and become a household name for any punter who likes their house music bassed out and versatile. So what brought us to our knees and has us typing this shit frantically, desperate to force feed you with some audible goodness? They've just done an Essential Mix for Pete Tong's famous Radio 1 slot and its straight up amazing. Wait, it's more than amazing - it's beyond anything our words can hit you with. The only way this tape can get justice is if you play it repeatedly for the next 48 hours - even longer if you still don't have a clue who Jack Beats are...

KIDDA/JACK BEATS + MORE!

You all know the Kidda name (remember Herve's amazing remix of 'Under The Sun'?) so we'll skip the introduction and shoot straight to some facts you may not know.

Kidda, as well as being a top-notch musician and producer, has also been producing music vids for Skint Records for over a decade! More so, his latest music video for Midfield General has been selected to showcase at over 25 cinema's around the UK in 2010, giving a whole new dimension to a 'multitude of talents'. Furthermore, and what brings us here, is that the amazing DJ/producer has just released (Feb 1st) a full remix album. You might have heard a few of the tracks before (like the Herve remix of "Under The Sun") but there's also productions from Jack Beats, Heavyfeet and Jaymo & Andy George to get your teeth into. Skint Records kindly gave us 3 tunes to give away and boy are they nice. If you like the tunes then you HAVE to buy the album, as these three simply represent a cross section of whats in order on the full release.

Walk Abouts With WoNK - Part 2

Well after 20 days away on tour, 17 flights, 11 gigs and god knows how many different cities and airports, I'm finally home in my own house with my studio rattling to the sounds of some tasty beats.

After getting back my Young Nutz partner (Dixxie) and I decided to get a label up and running. We wanted to bring the underground to everyone, showcase some fresh talent and also some of the usual suspects. Working hard for the past 3 weeks we have created 2 EP's for the launch which will include tunes by Young Nutz, Myself and Escobar and Vito, who we are doing a bunch of collaborations with including some tasty bootlegs which you will hear soon. As a way to launch the label properly we have decided to showcase some of the talent forthcoming on it and put out a big bootleg package which has bootlegs of Shy Fx - Nuttahz. Already testing out the Young Nutz mix on tour and taking a few vids we realised that it is a much loved tune so decided that you readers should get it free (so watch out its coming very soon).

On top of this bootleg we will also be letting loose our Rhythm flow bootleg that we did with Escobar and Vito. It's a Jack Beats style wobbler, mixing up one of our favorite old skool tunes. The labels myspace is up and running RIGHT HERE so check that out and the tunes and if you have anything please feel free to throw it over.

Gig wise things have been a touch quiet since coming home which is good as I get to relax a bit however I have been playing down at the Glasshouse in Stourbridge on Sundays where Dixxie and our friend Benoir run a night called Djs Strut and open the decks up to new talent as well as us being able to test out the new tunes.

I'm heading down to london for my debut there on Saturday at Hidden which will be awesome i can't wait to see what the london crowd are like and its always good to try a new dancefloor. Keep an eye on the label myspace and of course the wonk and young nutz ones as there are some big things coming.

Oh and before I forget much love to Messy Funk Clothing who will be sponsoring Young Nutz, WoNK and WoNKed with their line of t shirts and more from june 4th next year which is their official launch. I will keep you updated with all goings on there.

Much Love,
WoNK.

If You Missed Him at New Years...

In conjunction with Chew The Fats party coming up at Corsica Studios (event here - what a lineup!), Foamo dropped a fresh mixtape (late January 2009) and ripped it out to us. The links got chewed up pretty fast and have already been reposted - so you might wanna jump the link now and read the rest later. Regardless of that, the mixtape showcases various Foamo masterpieces including 'Wardance' (which is doing well on Radio 1 at the moment) and has a spray of international talent in the track listing, including AC Slater, Drop the Lime, Diplo and Jack Beats. Get it now and reminisce about New Years eve at Empire.
