Smoothers and Shakers

For those fridgejuicers that loom over the plenti-packed Brisbane scene, a delightful treat hits Barsoma's shores this Friday featuring none other than overseas American juggernaughts  — Holy Ghost! We haven't really gone into depth about Holy Ghost! here before, its rather been kept as something similar to well preserved sweet candy; like nougat, but rest assured, we'll give up our sweet toothed virginity to fill in the gaps in your musical cavities.

For a catch-up or rather, a nostalgic visit back to the past with Holy Ghost, we've included their two-part-two-disc mixtape featured on DFA earlier this winter. There's a lot of expect before you hit the DL, including sounds from In Flagranti, Phoenix, DJ Mehdi, Cut Copy, Van She and even the meshed sounds of the smooth skulled Moby. It doesn't come served without an amalgamated fist of full of remixed mayhem however. This one's also been rephased if you happened to nab the earlier released cassette version.

Next in line of our scrumcious confectionary is the mysterious maiden voyage of  Flight Facilities with nu-disco collab — Captain Earnest Bon-Huffington, Madame Francois de Lundenkopf, Esquire Winston Humphries III and Fred. We've been listening since their remix of Lowbrows 'Dream In The Desert' which induced an epic eight minute coma and further glued to our speakers with the super creamy 'Crave You' (if you don't think you have heard it, you have). Since landing, the crew has signed on their euro-synths, hypnotic basslines and occasional cowbell to Australian label - Bang Gang. We've included some of their tracks in case you were living under a rock while they flew overhead.

The ghosts have alternatively released their 'Static on the Wire' EP which concocts a very danceable slice of their synthetic disco pop funk whose velvety, silky and rather legitimate chorus will be sure to keep your skull busy for a day or two. Crisp low down-down bongo drums as well as a sexy story like guitar solo blur the lines between where the static on the wire finish or ends, so feel free to jump rope this one for hours on end. We promise you won’t get sick of it - ever.

It’s become a well known artefact the Brooklyn boys are the remix masters and quick visit to the Holy Ghost blog reveals an array of psychedelic sounds and other cheeky shenanigans. They've had a busy year on road hip-swaying and finger snapping with LCD Soundsystem and zig-zagging across their home turf with Chromeo, but thanks to those gentlemen chaps at Lick It, we get to jump on audible express to hear the porn and make the happy ending that is Holy Ghost!

Whether you know neither of the two success stories, one over the other, or both - you need to listen very carefully from here on out...

Banana with Detboi!

Remember the guys down at Banana we told you about not long ago, who have been making a stir with their nights, booking some of the freshest talent on the scene?
Well I have just heard from Banana
head honcho Henry, that on top of their artist management and their hugely successful events, they are making the bold jump and establishing Banana Records before the end of the year! With already some serious young talent on their roster and a keen eye for a top artist, I expect some big things from these guys for future releases.

And if thats not enough high potassium Banana goodness for you, heres another serving. Fresh from his latest EP release on Cheap Thrills, the highly anticipated Curse of the Voodoo Drums,
Detboi is set to tear apart the decks at Banana next Friday at Joshua Brooks in Manchester UK, in what will prove to be a night of bass driven madness!

What's more, Fridgejet and Banana are giving away a free double pass to the event!

All you need to do to try and get your hands on it is…
1) Like Banana on Facebook here
2) Write "I Love Bananas in my Fridgejet!" on their wall!
3) Bite your nails anxiously until the winner is announced on Wednesday 22nd of September!

(I've got to give Graphic State of Mind credit for these cool fliers too.
I've not seen one by him yet that I dont like!)

For all those who can't make it to Manchester in time, DON'T WORRY, we don't like to see anyone go away empty handed, so Banana resident Wonky Ninja has provided us with his latest remix for you all to enjoy!

ONE MAN PARTY @ BLACK CANDY

One Man Party, better known as the drummer from Soulwax, is what many would call a modern day hero. Not only does he travel the world with his friends making people happy, but he also does it on his own, spinning increasingly eclectic sets around the globe. Inspired by prominent 80's and 90's genres like new beat, rave, acid house and techno, One Man Party sure knows how to please the masses. Influenced by guys like 2 Many DJ's and Erol Alkan, its pretty obvious to anyone with reasonable knowledge his sets are going to pack a punch. What makes us particularly happy about One Man Party/The Crazy Soulwax Drummer/Steve Slingeneyer's amazing talents and success, is that he's decided to do what most big names do and pop into Black Candy! Ohh dear... don't plan anything the following day kids.

DESTROY TOUR!!

It has come to the attention of the Authorities that two of the most notorious gangs known to the establishment, The Bloody Beetroots and The Aston Shuffle have formed an unholy alliance which threatens to send the good citizens of Club Land into total anarchy. In circumstances never before witnessed these two musical masterminds have created a weapon of unparalleled power known only by the name DESTROY. Possessing unprecedented sonic powers including the ability to melt the ears of the people of Club Land, intelligence suggests that the weapon will be implemented in a matter of weeks.

After a tonne of emails and only one incorrect answer (Overconfidence? Wikipedia search gone wrong?), we gave you all a number and chucked you all in a hat. Turn's out number 44 got the draw, going to a lucky guy named Brandon M. He was stoked to nab the 2 tickets and like all of us, will be clasping his way to the front on Thursday night when Steve Aoki rips Family apart.
