Hijack vs Santiago & Bushido

What happens when three of Potty Mouth Music’s most established producers team up in their first ever studio collaboration?  Think samples, synths and instrumentation galore. The end result is “Way Back EP,” a four-track mix of house, percussive and peak-hour grooves that draw influences from the distinct styles of PMM’s Jon Chant (HiJack) and Chris Santiago and Tim Bushido (Santiago & Bushido).  The inception of PMM 033 dates back to spring 2009, when UK-native HiJack toured the States on the strength of his “Jackpot” (PMM05) and “Keep It Real”(PMM 022) EPs. Between gigs, he caught up with Chicago-based production duo Santiago & Bushido and settled in for some studio time.

The result was Way Back, which is a track all three of us made together,” Bushido says.

A series of overseas emails soon yielded two remixes—one completely done by HiJack and another styled solely by S&B. “Putting it Down,” the EP’s other original track, was also crafted through a collaborative series of audio exchanges. “Jon started it and got the core of the track—we beefed it up a bit and added our trademarks to it and mixed it down,” Bushido says.

It’s definitely a groover for house heads with some fresh samples and chunky beats,” HiJack quips. We agree! Check the samples below compliments of Potty Mouth Music and jump the EP on Beatport RIGHT HERE!!

PMM029 - Magik Johnson!

Taking a nod from tech-house heavyweights including Crookers, Jesse Rose and SIS, producer Magik Johnson unveils his latest trick for Potty Mouth Music with his “Stand Up EP” (PMM029). In showcasing a range of deep, tribal and peak hour grooves, Johnson’s debut label EP reflects the diversity of his multi-decade music career. The result is a three-track collection of original beats, capped with a jazz-inspired remix from UK electro-house producer Calvertron.

I really wanted to make three tracks that were dance floor friendly and represented what I am playing in the clubs” says Johnson, whose earliest deck days date back to the late ’80s when he rocked his own room at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda.

Since then, Johnson has gone on to establish himself as one of the most venerable artists in the business, blurring the lines of house and techno while remaining true to the nuanced complexities of each genre. Production stints with Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective all led to his launch of Shaboom Records, which developed into one of the world’s most respected dance labels.

Now Johnson adds Potty Mouth Music to the mix with the release of “Stand Up EP.” The record’s up-tempo title track resonates with a synth-driven neurosis set to audibly prick peak-hour crowds. Pair that with the deep, rolling groove of “Make You See,” a late night, tribal-tinged cut framed by vocal chants and dotty bassline. Johnson drifts between the two vibes with “Boy Blew,” a steady track that gets a jazz rework from Calvertron. In melding his signature wonky basslines with horn samples and classic keys, electro-house and organic jazz find an unexpectedly smooth match.

PMM 029 “Stand Up EP” is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by December 1. James Amato of Potty Mouth Records has shot over clips to test your taste buds then purchase the EP by clicking the JPG below!

Nice!

Head Trick REMIXED

Since the release of their breakthrough EP, “Headtrick” on Potty Mouth Music in January 2008, Santiago & Bushido have remained the label’s top production duo. Now on PMM030, S&B bring it back to where it all began with “Headtrick Remixed,” an eclectic EP that includes six different takes of the newly, reedited single. Internationally acclaimed producers including Troydon, Juan De La Madre, Audiostalkers, Keith Mackenzie & Fixx, and Jon Kennedy each put their own EDM stamp on the sound that burned up the Beatport.com charts as the No. 1 single for three consecutive weeks.

The driving basslines and distinctive loops of “Head Trick” helped make it the No. 8 best selling electro house track on Beatport in 2008 and earned international play from the likes of Tiesto and Armin van Burin plus charted by acclaimed artists such as Moby. “The idea for the remix album is to re-release the original for some of the new kids buying music in the scene and the remixes are for the people who need another mix to bang to,” Producer Chris Santiago says.

JUMP all the clips below courtesy of James Amato at Potty Mouth Music. If you like what you hear be sure to nab the full EP on Beatport (it's out today! right here), you can buy it twice if you want. More importantly, give it up for Sanitago & Bushido and Potty Mouth Music for absolutely killing it lately!

Adam Bozzetto Says Hi (October)

I am just about to end my 6 week stay in the US. Just a quick thanks to LA house music legend Wally Callerio for having me stay the last week, showing me one of Tiger Wood’s houses, and taking me to the shooting range so I could shoot a .357 Magnum. You didn’t need to chant USA, USA, USA while we were there thought? Anyway here are a couple of the musical related highlights of the last 6 weeks.

San Francisco was awesome. James Amato and the crew organized a gig with Green Velvet and Mark Farina which was amazing. I wanted to run off with Green Velvets CD as a souvenir...hahaha. I was thinking maybe he won't notice if I don’t give it back to him after I took it out of the CD player. It was amazing that you could have two such big names playing at the same time on different stages at a gig of only about 1000 people. One guy who was also booked to play the gig was Sticky K. He couldn’t make it in the end but I heard his new Crookers remix the other day and it’s killer!

My gig in LA got shut down before I even got there! Something to do with fire escapes. But warehouse parties are definitely alive and well in LA. I guess I have only heard about Cinespace and Aoki’s parties on Hollywood Boulevard, I had no idea about warehouse parties. I went to one on the south side of LA and I didn’t feel like I was at rave at all. Hahaha. It was a great alternative to going to a club where they have stop serving alcohol at 2am, and didn’t have the dodgy aspects I normally associate with warehouse parties.

This was my song of the tour. I think I have played this song at every gig. It’s not so new so you might already have it. I am still getting a lot of use out of it!

Adam Bozzetto Says Hi (September)

Hey All! Adam Bozzetto Here.

I just got to the US about a week ago. First off I would like to say a massive thanks to Potty Mouth Music label owner,
James Amato, and his housemate who is also a killer Dj, Ori Kawa, for letting me stay at there house and for filling every need I have to eat all things American.

I just got back from playing the Root Society Camp @ Burning Man Festival with a bunch of the Potty Mouth guys. WOW. what an experience. But lets just keep this post about the music. I was lucky enough to play along side a host of killer artist like
Hatiris, Robb G and J E L O all from Canada, Will Bailey from the UK, Joachim Garraud from France and the Potty Mouth guys James Amato, Electric Soulside, Santiago and Bushido and TJR. It was great to hear 'our sound' and similar stuff going down in a 60ft dome stage in the middle of the desert. Just when you think that maybe the sound that you love is not so prominent any more you go to something like this and you know that things are still going strong. Thanks Root Society Camp for having us!

Here are some amateur vids I took from the party within the 60ft dome, but 'till next week, peace!

Adam Bozzetto.
