Seriously Mean Jam!

Both were born and bred in the Sheffield music scene and influenced by a plethora of artists that fed a passion for upfront dance music and club culture. With an eventual rebirth into the electro house era, today deep in the Fridge we visit the technoraties: Nikjam and the Meena.

Bursting into the Electro House scene in 2009 with the success of their debut release ‘The Kaos Eerie’ EP on Peak Hour Music, came with a patient learning from early 90's underground clubs and drifted ends. A lust for production left the remixes ‘Bang Bang’ by Sue Cho & ei8ht and ‘Electronic Bitch’ by Headway benchmarks for the duo that have already began to make their mark as DJ's.

Current influences amongst the two simply include: "Good music. Whether it be dance music or not, hearing good music makes us want to make good music."

Future episodes enclosed within their collections include the production of fresh tech house tunes, where the final touches on new demos are paving their way. With both prodigies’ spinning regular shows on Di.Fm, be sure to check these guys out after the jump.

Soul For Rent EP!

Matthew Garton knows how to have a good time.

From quirky vocal overlays to bouncy basslines, his music reflects his style both in the studio and on the decks. This time Garton is shaking up the sound of Los-Angeles based Potty Mouth Music, putting an eclectic stamp of house, tech and funk into one five-track package. “Soul for Rent EP” (PMM032) not only marks the producer’s PMM debut, but also brings another new vibe to an already multi-dimensional roster of sound. “This EP represents all the styles of house that I love,” Garton says of his PMM debut. “It almost feels like I’ve drawn on influences from the past and then reworked them into more current interpretations.”

The EP’s title track “Soul for Rent” melds funk, stark synths and distorted vocals into one bounce-driven groove. South African electro house producer Geoff K speeds up the tempo for his remix, padding the bass while taking the track to a deeper, fuller place. Adding to the EP is “Candy Whacked,” a dirty tech fueled groove with all the peaks and valleys of a 2 a.m. banger. “Pretty Surprise” brings Garton’s quirky house influences to forefront, with help from a funky bass guitar and cheeky vocals by Baldwin Blaq. “One Love” rounds out the EP with its startling mix of synth driven sounds the build into a dreamy, soulful breakdown. Swing jazz drums and tick-tock bass pumps create stand out noise for the equally stand out track.

PMM030!!

It took a nasty Sunday hangover to inspire the mixed-up sounds of the MightyFools’ newest release on LA-based Potty Mouth Music. The two tracks juxtaposed on “Worse Than Yesterday EP” (PMM031) pair reverb and stabbing synths with the kind of peak hour rave influences Andy Samin and Jelle Keizer do best. The result is a versatile, two-track EP that melds influences of house, electro and techno into one party-centric package.

Following up on their 2008 success of “Who Da Fool?”(PMM013), MightyFools return after a year of touring Australia, Europe and most recently, the U.S. While their DJ influences include marquee artists including A-Trak, Boys Noize, Tiga and Busy P, their studio work has taken on the more muted influences of funk and soul as of late.

“It has that special thing that we try to put into our music as well,” says Keizer.

On their latest EP, MightyFools again bring their vibe of music diversity to the dance floor with “Worse Than Yesterday.” The title track pulses as a heavy rave track for peak-hour sets, inspiring chaotic twists and what Keizer calls “crowd destroying sounds.” “Clean It” echoes the duo’s earlier PMM release, combining hip-hop vocal drops with analog synth stabs to create a pounding, effected out track that pulses with gruff groove.

Enjoy the samples courtesy of PMM, then buy the full EP right here!

Surecut Dub Lazer!

Having recently received another colourful email from Goldy boys The Surecut Kids, we just have to throw their rant, picture included, your way. What's better is there's a tune to accompany it, a Major Lazer remix for that matter :)

"Hey hey! Got a new remix for you all… This is our re-rub of ‘Pon De Floor’ by Major Lazer. There was a remix comp going on for this track recently which i totally slept on, but decided to do this for our own use anyways. Its a dubstep version, and im sure there is a gazillion dubstep versions out there after that contest, so why not add this one to the pile. It actually started out as a dancehall/electro sounding remix but I wasn't feeling it so it sat on the shelf for about a month and then was re-born today in its current form."

Sounds tasty huh?

Major Lazer - Pon De Floor (The Surecut Kids 'So You Think You Can Dagger Remix)

Walk Abouts With WoNK - Part 3

Well Well, It's been a hectic time since I last blogged!

The label is launching on the 23rd of November on mighty BEATPORT.COM/LABELS/WONKED so expect some heavy beats coming out. The First EP has Escobar and Vito vs Young Nutz - The Raver, Young Nutz - The Party and WoNK - Don't Give up Disco. Check it out right here.  The label is run by myself and Dixxie (The other Young Nut) and we have already taken on EPs from the Idiot boyz, Kraymer, Shock an Awe and Si Valdez? vs Tin Dog, plus, on the remix we have Robb G, Kick Oh, Jay force, Blaze Tripp and many more. Demos are being taken for future remixes and originals are being signed so feel free to hit us at wonkedrecords(@)live.com with a demo submission as we listen to everything.

On a personal note i just moved house so the studio had to be taken down and re-set up but my god, the room I have now for it is so much bigger. The sound is amazing so I will be dropping out some heavy tracks including a solo one I'm finishing up at the moment which is called 'Reclaim the Streets' and will be out soon ;)

I shall be at Sankeys 28th November as Young Nutz with Dixxie dropping some hot new bombs along side Dave Spoon and Funkagenda for 'Monkey Funk'. We will be doing a few Vs nights with them once we kick off the WoNKed night so keep your eyes peeled for that. Myself and Young Nutz have just been sponsored by Messy Funk Clothing and that fully kicks off June 4th 2010 with some crazy ass designs that are currently being kept locked in a secret box. A WoNKed tour in April is on the cards as well so more from that over the coming months but its lining up to be a fun one and it will be in Europe plus other areas are being sorted at present. Catch Young Nutz @ Roll Deep in coventry along side Mikey Hook on 30th January next year and at 'The Drop' in Bristol 8th April. For anyone that lives in the midlands and wants to come and show their dj skills off Djs Strut Your Stuff is in full flow at the Glass house in Stourbridge and you can get along and get on the decks for 30 mins and have a chance to win a set at Freque which is always rammed out every month along side the residents which include Dixxie and his Freque dj partner Benoir.

As promised Nuttahz is now out and here it is and the whole package aswell:

Plus some other bootlegs for you :)

WoNKed.

Adam Bozzetto Says Hi (November)

Hey all. Not a whole lot has been happening in the last month. Calm before the storm I think! I personally have been finishing off some tracks for Potty Mouth Music. Hopefully a second release is not to far off in the future.

I do have a tonne of new music in which to write about however. The two that stand out are the new Strip Steve EP and Justin Martin and Riva Starr teaming up. The new Strip Steve EP.......Amazing. I like that there is a move to a more funky/disco sound with acts like Strip Steve, Boyz Noise, Fake Blood etc. It makes it easier for myself to play their music in my sets. Also a five track EP, not just two or three.  I think its kind off meeting a middle ground between what I guess I am used to as ‘fidget’ and Indie Dance/Nu Disco.

Strip Steve - AM/ FM

Also I am excited that the not minimal/not fidget sound (like the label Sound Pellegrino) is giving a new life to Justin Martin and Riva Starr. I remember all the tech house heads were the only people that would listen to Justin Martin. But now he is back. Here is my favorite tune from the two at the moment.

Justin Martin, Claud Von Stroke – Beat That Bird (Riva Starr-Re Chunk)

Talk this time next month!

Boemklatsch Records!

Have you heard of Boemklatsch Records? Well if not...

Brainchild of one of the biggest parties in Holland and counting artists like Larry Tee, Malente, Jaimie Fanatic, Hostage, Stereoheroes, Mightyfools and Tommie Sunshine among their ranks - these guys have got a host of exciting releases coming out from now into the New Year, and we'd love if you could feel them as much as we do.

Right now, we've got tracks to giveaway related to Mike Mago's latest EP - with a good mixture of 320s and 128s. The whole release features tracks from Mike himself, Malente, a dubstep cut from Gomes & Dion and also Dan Oh. Check out the audio below plus a mix, consider this a sprinkle of electro fairydust :: 5 tunes and a mix tape!

Mike Mago - Hey! (Original Mix)

Surecut DUB!

Part Two of our reconciliation. Here's what The Surecut Kids had to say about the latest tune!!

"Hey friends, happy weekend. Thought we should share this with you. You may remember last week we posted our ‘Workin Up A Sweat’ track. It was made from ‘Push It’ samples and we couldnt figure out if it fell into the ‘remix’ category or the ‘totally new track that contains chopped up Salt N Pepa vocals’ category (we ended up going with the latter). Anyways, its been bugging us this week that it could have been a really cool dubstep joint. So here it is: A remix of our own remix! How self indulgent is that!?! We are now one step away from being a noise-band that writes songs in time-signatures that only we can understand. But besides the weirdness of giving our own track a re-rub, we like this version way better than the first one. So put it on blast and ragdoll around the room for a bit to get you in the mood for the weekend!

You better enjoy it. Grab the two crazy lad's right here and praise them with some feedback!

The Surecut Kids - Workin' Up A Sweat (The Turbulence Version)

YUP!

Brain Matters. It Does.

Well haven't we been shit lately. Don't worry, it's in our minds and its playing tricks on our heart, but uni finals sucked by the way. Consider this post the beginning of our 5 part reconciliation. With a tonne to catch up on and an overflowing inbox, ill give you a few tasters now to settler your stomach. Watch out for Adam Bozzetto's post, a bunch of sweet EP features, a few mixtapes and a bunch more, all very soon!

For now, let us chat about the Brain Matters DJ's. Legend has it they formed in a club when their output levels found a completely harmonic state - what's that even mean? Hmm maybe we made that up. Anyway, Northie and Benson make up the crazy duo, and you all know how much we love those guys. We raved about Northie a month or two ago and gave you a bunch of his tunes, but consider this post further insight into the crazy life that kid lives! This time round the two conjured up a crazy remix of Hey Now's tune 'Bring That' which can't go down anything other than a treat. The links to praise the two are scattered around the post so be a motivated citizen and following them up with some feedback!

Hey Now - Bring That (Brain Matters Remix)

Only the beginning. x

PMM029 - Magik Johnson!

Taking a nod from tech-house heavyweights including Crookers, Jesse Rose and SIS, producer Magik Johnson unveils his latest trick for Potty Mouth Music with his “Stand Up EP” (PMM029). In showcasing a range of deep, tribal and peak hour grooves, Johnson’s debut label EP reflects the diversity of his multi-decade music career. The result is a three-track collection of original beats, capped with a jazz-inspired remix from UK electro-house producer Calvertron.

I really wanted to make three tracks that were dance floor friendly and represented what I am playing in the clubs” says Johnson, whose earliest deck days date back to the late ’80s when he rocked his own room at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda.

Since then, Johnson has gone on to establish himself as one of the most venerable artists in the business, blurring the lines of house and techno while remaining true to the nuanced complexities of each genre. Production stints with Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective all led to his launch of Shaboom Records, which developed into one of the world’s most respected dance labels.

Now Johnson adds Potty Mouth Music to the mix with the release of “Stand Up EP.” The record’s up-tempo title track resonates with a synth-driven neurosis set to audibly prick peak-hour crowds. Pair that with the deep, rolling groove of “Make You See,” a late night, tribal-tinged cut framed by vocal chants and dotty bassline. Johnson drifts between the two vibes with “Boy Blew,” a steady track that gets a jazz rework from Calvertron. In melding his signature wonky basslines with horn samples and classic keys, electro-house and organic jazz find an unexpectedly smooth match.

PMM 029 “Stand Up EP” is now available for purchase exclusively on beatport.com for four weeks. Look for it to be available for purchase on iTunes by December 1. James Amato of Potty Mouth Records has shot over clips to test your taste buds then purchase the EP by clicking the JPG below!

Nice!

Adventures With Wongo :: Volume #3

Heyo just a quick one today, last week was a masssiivee and sick night with Boy8bit, I'm still hurting. There was lots of penis showing, skirt flipping and all round looseness. With the added attendance of Bass Weazel and Little Fritter who just got back from his European tour!!! Also this month I have decided to give out 4 of my tunes for free. Full wackyness, scary dancefloor shit to test those mutha fuckers whether or not they have taken enough mdma that night.

So here they are:

Also this month I have a sick gig at the new BE club in new zealand!! Absolutely sick system and already a great following which will accommodate for another sick night in Auckland. So anyway, I recorded a mix last week at 3am to bring you a taste of what there is to come. This tingles a little bit of everything I'm into lately and want to bang out. I'm sure there's something in there for everybody. It also has some Pow! Pow! material which is a new duo I've started up with mastermind Raye Antonelli. GET INTO IT YO! !

Fridgejet Fun Bag - November

Let's just jump right into this one. We've got a bulk serving to throw your way!!

'Simon Says' Gets Heavy

Mikey Mic is the Stockholm sensation storming Hype Machine with his Rolling Stone acclaimed remixes and no-nonsense attitude to big room electro remixes. Turns out he's now taking on hip-hop legend Pharoahe Monch with a Bloody Beetroots-esque rework which is sure to slay some dancefloors, download the two versions below, let us know which one you prefer, and feel free to show this man some love by checking this video to learn a little more.

Breakdown (LA)

The LA producers 'Breakdown' have been making quite the name for themselves since their inception in late 2007. Their releases have turned in the boxes of DJs like Benny Benassi, Laidback Luke, Micky Slim, Z-Trip, DJ Dan, Will Bailey, Donald Glaude, AC Slater and The Freestylers. They've also been busy collaborating with The Sounds, Deadmau5, Will Bailey, MC Flipside, South Rakkas Crew, Hot Pink Delorean, Killa Queenz, Whiskey Pete, Kelevra, Rico Tubbs, & Gigi Barrocco to name a few! But that's not all - they have a big summer coming up with releases on Universal/Motown, One Love (Sony) Australia, Marine Parade, PBR, Simma, Bombsquad and more.

In celebration, they have a string of funky releases to throw your way - free of charge! To kick things off the LA beatmashers have remixed Bouncecamp (the B-more Berliner) with a funky twist. What do you think?

'Hold The Line' Remix

To say we have heard a few of these Major Lazer remixes would be an understatement. This one takes a new look at things and the edge has definitely toned itself down. To be honest but, as summer rolls in, there's no complaints about dMon's worthy effort on this one, as he brings to the table a slightly more minamilistic remix. If you haven't heard the name, he's originally from Washington but now residing in Scotland and would love to hear your feedback right here.

The Surecut Kids

We hadn't heard from the crazy Gold Coast lads in awhile so we assumed they had been excecuting some pretty heavy breadbox parties. Turns out they had been working on a tune which found itself in our inbox a few days ago. Truth be told I'm still listening to the last few tunes they sent us, but here's something fresh, complete with that funky artwork they always conjure up. Hit them up and tell the two how good they are right here.

Summer Vibes!

For over 10 years Canadian bass DJ Phatcat has been tearing up events all over Western Canada performing his own hype blend of Dubstep, Funky, Broken Beats and Bassline House - never shy to incorporate elements of Reggae, Jungle, Garage, HipHop, and Booty Bass riddims into his notoriously exciting performances. Now he's teamed up with another big name in the Canadian scene - Daphutur, comprised of Mark Daniels & The Hugonaught. Also based out of Edmonton the young duo are known for their party-time vibes and genre mashing, with bass music as the focus. Currently with a track featured in DJ Craze's '09 summer mix, this is their first release and they have no plans of slowing down.

"Tell Me Why" is a track of their latest EP (Future Roots Records) and we have it to throw your way in search of feedback. Clipped rave keys set the pace while chopped R&B vox rev up the vibe, that is until the classic vocal wail is let loose and a web of bouncing synths explode with the growling dubstep bass... but what do you think?

THAT IS ALL :)

:: NSR003 ::

Already on their 3rd release, Nu Style Records have taken no time in stomping their foot through the stubborn front door of the record label industry. Turn's out they had another swift punch in mind soon after in their 2nd release, with the final jab hooking our email inbox a few days ago.

If you consider yourself a connoisseur of the Nu Style Records label, congratulations, you'll have a ballpark idea of the sound emitting from NSR003. Like previous releases, the 'new kid on the block' label keeps their EP's nice and diverse, throwing what we can only describe as pure filth, wobble, jackin' house and breakbeat elements into a jam packed offering with a bunch of names you know. The crew called up remix services from the well known Kraymer, Jason Score, Nate Metro and Audius, all of which gave very unique takes on a thumping main room original. The EP depicts the progress Nu Style have gone through since their initiation and we won't deny they have come along way from those early days.

Enjoy the complimentary samples courtesy of Paul Howe @ Nu Style Records and be sure to praise all the artists you feel a connection with. Included is a bonus tune sent over by good friend JC Edit, formulating another Kraymer tune he'd been handed. Seems like that Kraymer guy has a solid work ethic and a pretty damn good sound!

BONUS ::

Tom EQ

You can check the other blogs to hear a genre based rundown on what Tom EQ produces, but from the man himself? "It's music for the dancefloor that doesn't take itself too seriously". We like that, and we have always liked his tunes, so you can imagine the grin when we noticed he'd shot us some mail with a few audible goodies attached.

For a brief history lesson I'll take pleasure in spitting you five fast facts;

(1) Tom EQ is from the United Kingdom, (2) He has releases on Wearhouse Records, Jack Union, Ho-Ju Records and many more, (3) He makes music that tells his neighbors to fuck off, (4) He won the European DJoust Championship in 2008, beating over 500 DJs and (5), Tom has a new EP for Jack Union Records nearing!

As we raved about before, we have a couple of tunes adequate to satisfy those music taste buds until you can get his latest EP in your mits. See if his remix of VonStroke's 'Vocal Chords' tickles your fancy, perhaps his edit of Switch's famed remix of 'Something On Your Mind'? Even try his remix for Lithuania duo Aout 6 where he serves up a pretty tasty and very tech-heavy tune! Still not a satisfied addict? Fine, there's a few more bonus tunes sourced from Tom EQ's older free range work. Just remember, if you like them be sure to throw your money at his Beatport catalouge here and shoot him some love right here or over there.

Walk Abouts With WoNK - Part 2

Well after 20 days away on tour, 17 flights, 11 gigs and god knows how many different cities and airports, I'm finally home in my own house with my studio rattling to the sounds of some tasty beats.

After getting back my Young Nutz partner (Dixxie) and I decided to get a label up and running. We wanted to bring the underground to everyone, showcase some fresh talent and also some of the usual suspects. Working hard for the past 3 weeks we have created 2 EP's for the launch which will include tunes by Young Nutz, Myself and Escobar and Vito, who we are doing a bunch of collaborations with including some tasty bootlegs which you will hear soon. As a way to launch the label properly we have decided to showcase some of the talent forthcoming on it and put out a big bootleg package which has bootlegs of Shy Fx - Nuttahz. Already testing out the Young Nutz mix on tour and taking a few vids we realised that it is a much loved tune so decided that you readers should get it free (so watch out its coming very soon).

On top of this bootleg we will also be letting loose our Rhythm flow bootleg that we did with Escobar and Vito. It's a Jack Beats style wobbler, mixing up one of our favorite old skool tunes. The labels myspace is up and running RIGHT HERE so check that out and the tunes and if you have anything please feel free to throw it over.

Gig wise things have been a touch quiet since coming home which is good as I get to relax a bit however I have been playing down at the Glasshouse in Stourbridge on Sundays where Dixxie and our friend Benoir run a night called Djs Strut and open the decks up to new talent as well as us being able to test out the new tunes.

I'm heading down to london for my debut there on Saturday at Hidden which will be awesome i can't wait to see what the london crowd are like and its always good to try a new dancefloor. Keep an eye on the label myspace and of course the wonk and young nutz ones as there are some big things coming.

Oh and before I forget much love to Messy Funk Clothing who will be sponsoring Young Nutz, WoNK and WoNKed with their line of t shirts and more from june 4th next year which is their official launch. I will keep you updated with all goings on there.

Much Love,
WoNK.
