Oh Shit! Tha Illest

Talking about Oh Shit! is like raving about the craziest house party you never went to, or the wildest club night you can only imagine. Having talents that span beyond your traditional DJ, the Los Angeles duo serve up a bassed-out jam in what us common folk would call the premier joints around town. Call it electro, afrobeat, funk or country if you like, the sound produced by the duo has constantly made its own statements at those wild club nights we talked about earlier, and we have proof.

In August 2009, popular blog aggregator HypeMachine showed a worthy aknowledgement of the Oh Shit! talent, with their 'Eye of the Tiger' re-make hitting number 1 on overall downloads. Further to this, it was evident the guys were far from their expirary date, suggesting big things to come. What exactly was answered late last month, with the announcement of Velcro City Records 50th Release honors going to the duo. The two part release, entitled 'The Illest' feat vocals from Messinian, came out on October 6th and October 8th respectively, making up an albums worth of talent and a suitable tribute to 50 releases. While every tune on the two part EP deserves honorable mention, we have a few specific clips to pass on today, selected over both releases and courtesy of Spread The Noise.

Kicking things of with the original, it has that disco vibe and is filthed up a touch with some sweet lyrics. I think this sorta sound is getting pushed just right at the moment, making this the pick of the lot for me. Night Drugs said it all when they called it their 'Serious Remix', with a heavy electro charger suitable for a sweaty 3am request. Joman chooses a similar path but tones down the tempo and provides a jacked up electro house number, while DJ Vanish goes down a progressive house route but keeps the funk of the original prominent.
